Isle of the Dead Number Three
This is my favourite of the five versions painted by Arnold Bocklin.
Establishes a fabulous, somber mood. Very representative of the Symbolists.
I like Gigers interpretation of this painting: http://85anti.tumblr.com/post/972607136/the-isle-of-the-dead-an-h-r-gigers Less subtle, but hellishly creepy :)

I loved Giger, then saw him as a repetitive, one trick pony before coming round full circle and loving his work again.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree, his work is wonderfully atmospheric and creepy. Perfect for the Alien franchise.
