Only this time it's in one of my favourite countries, the United States of America, disappearing people off the street and shipping them off to an El Salvadorean gulag.

Anne Applebaum, interviewed above, wrote Autocracy, Inc., which is very good. It dives into the coordinated efforts by autocracies around the world to destroy democratic institutions.
Years ago, Western politicians and academics predicted that the internet would export freedom and democracy to autocracies. Now, autocracies have built troll farms and disinformation campaigns to destabilize democracies.
It flows both ways, although currently it's flowing more one way than the other.
Autocracy, Inc. retreads some ground covered by Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson in books like Why Nations Fail and The Narrow Corridor.
David Brin has more on Phase 9 from Outer Space. I mean, of the ongoing American Civil War and tariff madness.
